We aim to give street children in Ghana a bright future. Our mission is to ensure that street children are safe, educated, healthy, and equipped for life.
Since our inception twenty-six (26) years ago, we have nurtured an inclusive environment that embraces the diversity and uniqueness of everyone. Irrespective of gender, role, or background, we pride our relationships on the highest levels of integrity and trust.
Currently, we are on this mission in eight (8) locations: Accra, Tema, Kasoa, Hebron, Kumasi, Tamale, Takoradi, and Dambai using an integrated approach of street work, prevention in communities, reintegration, and effective collaborations with different partners and stakeholders. Responsibilities
In the role of Social Worker, you shall;
- Visit children on the street, interact with them, offer support, and refer them for care and protection.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of street children, children at risk of street life, and their families to identify needs, strengths, and risks.
- Develop and implement individualized case plans that address immediate needs and long-term goals for children and families.
- Engage with young adults for career development and prepare them to transition into apprenticeship/TVET programs through needs-based interventions.
- Engage in community outreach programs and activities to build supportive networks for children and families.
- Provide direct support to children and families, helping them navigate challenges.
- Assist children in transitioning to formal education systems and collaborate with schools to ensure children’s needs are met.
- Manage the processes of children transitioning from street situations to their families for successful reintegration.
- Strengthen families to function optimally as primary agents of socialization.
- Identify, establish, and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders to harness resources that strengthen clients, their families, and communities.
- Visit reunified children and their families regularly and plan the best interventions for successful reintegration.
- Hold workshops that strengthen and enhance street children’s and their families’ lifestyles.
Requirements
To thrive in this role, you should have:
- A minimum of a First Degree/Diploma in Social Work, Sociology, Integrated Development Studies, and Community Development.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience working with children/families, particularly in street environments or community outreach.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in casework.
- Familiarity with child-centered approaches to finding solutions for street children.
- Understanding of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, and the ability to work respectfully within those contexts.
- Working knowledge of database management software (a plus).
- Ability to speak English, Fante, Twi, plus any other Ghanaian language.
- Excellent skills in building trusted relationships and bonds with children and families.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to learn fast and work within set procedures and quality standards.
- Ability to work within a team.
- Ability to work with children and families from deprived communities and spend extensive time with them
