About This Job

As Communications and Marketing Intern, you will support the design and implementation of Relief Applications’ communication activities across digital channels. You will work closely with the management team to create engaging content, promote our projects and events, and strengthen our online presence.

This internship is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in communications for social impact, humanitarian innovation, geospatial technologies, and international development. You’ll gain hands-on experience across multiple communication channels while contributing to meaningful projects with global reach.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with WordPress for creating and managing website content.
  • Basic knowledge of email marketing platforms (MailChimp) to assist in creating and sending newsletters.
  • Knowledge of design tool/s like Illustrator / Figma or similar software for creating visually appealing graphics / publications.
  • Understanding of social media insights and LinkedIn for tracking communication performance.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite for managing the daily work, creating documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, International Relations, Media Studies, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and spoken English (required).
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills for digital audiences.
  • Ability to review and edit content for accuracy, consistency, and professionalism.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, particularly LinkedIn.
  • Experience using Canva, Figma or similar graphic design tools.
  • Ability to use AI tools (e.g. Claude.ai, ChatGPT) to support content creation, editing, research, and communication workflows while ensuring high-quality, accurate, and engaging outputs. 
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, multicultural environment.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively and contribute to team discussions and initiatives.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and tasks as required in a dynamic environment.
  • Interest in humanitarian action, international development, technology for good, or geospatial innovation.

Potential Tasks

Content creation & digital communications (50%)

  • Draft and edit content for the website, newsletters, blog articles, and social media.
  • Create visual content using tools such as Canva, Figma or Claude design.
  • Help develop communication materials, including presentations and promotional assets.
  • Support the production of stories highlighting Relief Applications’ projects, partners, and impact.
  • Ensure consistency with the organisation’s branding and communication guidelines.

Social media & community engagement (25%)

  • Support the planning and scheduling of social media content across LinkedIn and other relevant platforms.
  • Monitor engagement and contribute ideas to increase audience reach and interaction.
  • Help identify relevant news, events, and opportunities to share with our community.
  • Track basic communication metrics and prepare simple performance reports.

Events & outreach (15%)

  • Support communication activities for webinars, workshops, conferences, and events.
  • Assist with preparing event materials, registration pages, and follow-up communications.
  • Help promote opportunities such as webinars, publications, and open positions.

Communication support & coordination (10%)

  • Maintain and organise communication assets, templates, and media libraries.
  • Assist with website updates and content management.
  • Conduct background research on communication trends, humanitarian innovation, and relevant audiences.
  • Provide general communication support across organisational initiatives as needed.
