Our fully funded scholarships give outstanding emerging leaders from around the world the opportunity to pursue a one-year master’s degree in the UK.

About Chevening Scholarships
Chevening is the UK Government’s international scholarships programme.
Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, we offer fully funded scholarships to outstanding emerging leaders from around the world to study for one-year master’s degrees in the UK.
A Chevening Scholarship gives you the opportunity to develop academically and professionally, build lasting networks, experience UK culture, and form positive relationships with the UK.
Our scholars come from a wide range of countries, backgrounds, and professional fields, but they share a commitment to making a positive difference.
Are You Eligible?
To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship, you must:

Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.

Commit to returning to your home country or country of award for at least two years after your scholarship ends.

Have at least 2,800 hours of work experience acquired after completing your undergraduate degree.

Hold an undergraduate degree that enables you to gain entry to a postgraduate programme at a UK university.

Have completed your undergraduate studies at least two years before the application deadline.

Apply to three different eligible UK university courses.

Receive an unconditional offer from at least one of your course choices by the deadline specified in our application timeline.
There is no upper age limit for applying for a Chevening Scholarship.
You can also apply if you already hold a master’s degree, provided you meet our other eligibility requirements.
What We Look For
There is no single type of Chevening Scholar.
We are looking for people who can demonstrate the potential to become future leaders, decision-makers, and influencers in their countries and fields.
Your application should show evidence of:

Your ability to build and maintain professional relationships

A clear, realistic, and achievable career plan

Your commitment to creating positive and lasting change

How studying in the UK through Chevening will help you achieve your goals
We encourage you to think carefully about what you want to achieve, why your chosen courses are important to your plans, and how you will use the knowledge, skills, and networks gained through Chevening when you return home.
Choose Three UK Master’s Courses
As part of your application, you must select three eligible UK master’s courses.
Your course choices should reflect your current experience, future ambitions, and the change you want to create.
You will need to secure at least one unconditional university offer by the deadline specified in our application timeline.
We strongly encourage you to apply to your chosen universities as early as possible rather than waiting until later in the Chevening selection process.
References and Education Documents
As part of your application, you will need to provide the names and contact details of two referees.
If you are shortlisted for an interview, you will also be required to upload:

Two reference letters written in English.

Your undergraduate degree certificate.
Make sure the information and documents you provide are complete and accurate.
2027–2028 Application Timeline
4 August 2026 – Applications open
Applications opened at 11:00 UTC.
6 October 2026 – Applications close
Applications close at 11:00 UTC.
We strongly recommend submitting your application before the deadline. You will not be able to access the online application system to submit your application after applications close.
From October 2026 – Eligibility checks
We review applications to make sure they meet our eligibility requirements.
Mid-October 2026 to January 2027 – Applications are assessed
Independent reading committees assess eligible applications.
Mid-February 2027 – Interview shortlists announced
British embassies and high commissions review applications and select candidates for interview.
March to April 2027 – Interviews take place
If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to an interview with representatives from the British embassy or high commission.
Mid-June 2027 – Interview results announced
We begin announcing the results of Chevening interviews.
8 July 2027 – University offer deadline
Successful applicants must submit at least one unconditional UK university offer by 17:00 BST.
September/October 2027 – Studies begin
Successful scholars travel to the UK and begin their studies as part of the 2027–2028 Chevening cohort.
