Development Assistant

This position is open to candidates who are authorized to work in the United States, with a particular preference for those who live and work within the Eastern Time Zone.

About WEDO

The Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO) is a global feminist advocacy organization advancing environmental integrity, gender equality, and human rights. For more than 30 years, we have worked alongside movements to shape just policies, share power, and redirect resources toward community-driven solutions. We imagine a world where care and sustainability guide every decision, where those most impacted by crisis lead the way, and where collective action builds a future for everyone.

The Role

We are hiring a Development and Partnerships Assistant to help build and sustain the systems, tools, and relationships that fuel our work. This is an early-career role for someone who is eager to learn, highly organized, and excited to support the behind-the-scenes infrastructure of a mission-driven team.

You will collaborate across our development, communications, finance, and program teams. You will help manage calendars and contact lists, support proposal and report preparation, and keep internal tools organized and up to date. You will also help us tell the story of our impact through donor materials and shared resources.

This role offers the chance to grow in a dynamic organization committed to gender equality, environmental justice, and feminist leadership.

What You’ll Do

Support Fundraising Operations

  • Track donor timelines and deliverables and help maintain shared documents and calendars
  • Draft and edit sections of reports, proposals, and communications with guidance from your manager
  • Conduct basic donor research and help keep contact lists updated
  • Coordinate logistics for meetings, briefings, and donor-related events

Maintain Tools and Systems

  • Keep fundraising folders and templates organized and easy to use
  • Update trackers and shared spreadsheets and support database management
  • Support consistent filing, naming conventions, and best practices for internal documents

Help Tell Our Story

  • Collaborate with team members to gather stories, data points, and materials for fundraising
  • Support the development of decks, one-pagers, donor packets, and digital content
  • Help format and organize communications to reflect WEDO’s tone and style

Grow and Learn

  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and planning sessions to understand the full scope of WEDO’s work
  • Ask questions, offer ideas, and contribute to a collaborative and joyful team culture
  • Take initiative in developing your skills and understanding of feminist fundraising and advocacy

What You Bring

You do not need to meet every qualification to apply. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. You may be a strong fit if you bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field (such as nonprofit management, communications, administration or related fields);
  • Interest in nonprofit management, philanthropy, feminist organizing, as well as the intersections of gender, climate and environmental justice, or movement-building;
  • Strong organizational skills and a systems-oriented mindset;
  • Clear writing and editing skills;
  • Comfort with Google Workspace and openness to learning new platforms like Airtable;
  • The ability to work independently and in collaboration with others;
  • A commitment to WEDO’s mission and values.

How You Work

  • Equity-focused: You recognize how identity shapes experience and actively work to reduce bias and build fairness into systems;
  • Always learning: You ask questions, seek feedback, and apply new knowledge to improve your work;
  • Organized and efficient: You manage multiple tasks with clarity, speed, and care for your team;
  • Detail-oriented: You catch mistakes, fix what’s broken, and look for ways to make systems better;
  • Proactive and resourceful: You take initiative and solve problems with creativity and care;
  • Collaborative and curious: You build trust across differences and approach relationships with respect and openness.

Work Culture

At WEDO, we believe our workplace should reflect the world we are working to create. We center care, equity, and collective well-being in how we collaborate, communicate, and show up for each other. Our team is small, global, and deeply committed to feminist values, movement-building, and joy in the work.

We offer a flexible, remote-first work environment with a comprehensive benefits package. This includes health insurance coverage for employees and their families, paid time off, and employer contributions to a 401(k) retirement plan once eligible. We understand that rest and support are essential to doing meaningful work, and we have policies in place to reflect that. We support staff learning with an annual stipend of $500, monthly reflection calls with your manager, and occasional group trainings.

WEDO is an equal opportunity employer. We value a wide range of experiences and identities and are committed to building a team that reflects the communities we serve. If you need accommodations during the application or interview process, such as captioned video calls or other forms of access support, please let us know. We are happy to work with you.

A Note on AI

We have noted that AI tools are increasingly used in the application process. That said, we’ve found that applications relying heavily on AI-generated content often sound similar and are harder to distinguish. Your authentic voice and lived experience are what help your application stand out. We encourage you to let your personality, perspective, and passion come through clearly in your resume and cover letter.

Deadline to Apply: August 15, 2025 12pmET

Indicative Start: First three weeks of September
