REPORTING TO: Software Engineer – UI/UX
Job Description
The UI/UX Designer at Raising The Village supports the design and enhancement of intuitive, accessible, and human-centered user interfaces for RTV’s digital platforms. The Designer focuses on translating user needs into clean, functional designs that work in diverse environments, especially for rural field users and low-bandwidth contexts, ensuring excellent experiences for different user groups. This role involves working closely with product managers, Web and Mobile Developers/Engineers, and Quality Assurance teams to deliver wireframes, prototypes, and user-tested visual interfaces that align with RTV’s design system and digital impact goals.
Roles & Responsibilities
Human-Centered Product Design
- Conduct field-informed user research, usability testing, and contextual inquiry to understand user behaviors, constraints, and motivations across rural and field-based environments.
- Translate user insights into actionable design concepts, including personas, user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes that directly respond to real-world use cases.
- Advocate for inclusive, accessible, and localized design approaches that serve both tech-savvy users and those in low-literacy, low-connectivity settings.
Interface and Interaction Design
- Design intuitive, responsive, and platform-consistent user interfaces for mobile and web applications using modern design tools such as Figma.
- Create polished, high-fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes that clearly define layout, flow, interactions, and microcopy for complex workflows and data capture scenarios.
- Apply and adapt the RTV Design System to create scalable and consistent UI solutions, while identifying edge cases and UI gaps for escalation.
Design Implementation Support
- Work closely with frontend engineers to ensure design fidelity, accessibility, and implementation accuracy during development sprints.
- Prepare annotated design specifications, versioned files, interaction guidelines, and assets to streamline handoff and collaboration.
- Actively participate in backlog grooming, sprint reviews, Quality Assurance cycles, and bug triaging to ensure that user experience is maintained from concept to release.
Feedback-Driven Iteration
- Continuously refine and iterate designs based on stakeholder input, field test results, and post-launch usage feedback.
- Collaborate with the UI/UX Engineer to identify pain points, improve task flows, and raise UX concerns backed by evidence and user observation.
- Contribute to documentation and post-implementation reviews that drive future design decisions.
Design System Stewardship
- Ensure all components and UI patterns used in design work conform to RTV’s Intelligent Design System and help maintain visual and behavioral consistency across the platform ecosystem.
- Identify opportunities to expand or improve system components, and contribute to discussions on interface standardization and UX maturity.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Engage proactively with Product leadership, Quality Assurance Engineers, and Developers to co-create meaningful solutions aligned with user needs and project goals.
- Participate in product ideation, roadmap planning, and design critiques as a key contributor to RTV’s digital product development lifecycle.
