Communications Manager

About the job

NetHope is seeking an experienced, organized, collaborative, and enthusiastic professional to develop and coordinate compelling communications that tells the organization’s story and engages its target audiences. The Communications Manager will work closely with the Director of Communications, and across the organization, to generate content and create multi-channel communication campaigns in support of our Member, partner and funder outreach as well as to build an external audience of champions.

This is a hands-on role for a confident communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment, loves the challenge of creating engaging content, and knows how to grow audiences using the latest digital marketing strategies. The ideal candidate brings strong audience engagement instincts, high attention to detail, and experience managing multiple communications needs in a nonprofit setting. This role is a partner across teams, helping to translate NetHope’s programmatic and partnership work into powerful communications that grow our impact, support fundraising goals, and strengthen our voice across the sector.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Audience Acquisition, Campaign Execution, Digital Marketing (40%)

  • Develop and execute digital marketing campaigns that grow and engage NetHope’s audiences across email, social media, website, and paid channels, using tools such as Campaign Monitor and Metricool aligned with segmented audiences and engagement goals in collaboration with the Director of Communication.
  • Manage NetHope’s social media presence, developing and scheduling mission aligned content to increase reach, interactions, and conversions
  • Support and coordinate implementation of Google Ad Grant and paid media campaigns with consultants and align creative assets with audience acquisition goals.
  • Expand NetHope’s visibility by identifying and activating off-platform opportunities.
  • Manage and optimize basic SEO strategies using tools and insights to increase discoverability and grow organic traffic in collaboration with consultants and department leadership.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications and other stakeholders to develop audience personas and tailor messaging across the engagement journey.
  • Optimize performance using analytics, A/B testing, and audience insights to inform digital engagement and growth strategies across web, social, email, and media. Implement audience acquisition strategy for NetHope Global Summit and support event communication needs as assigned, including the creation, scheduling, and content publication of assets across Cvent platform, and campaign execution across email, social, Google Ads, and other paid and organic media to achieve registration targets and engagement goals.
  • Serve as lead project manager and content creator for NetHope webinar series including audience acquisition strategies, promotional emails, registration assets, slide templates, post-event content, and facilitation (speaker preparation, slide coordination, branded templates. Provides speaker preparation and facilitates webinars on externally facing channels while providing guidance, templates, and best practices for those webinars on channels outside of portfolio.

Content Creation & Visual Design (25%)

  • Write and edit compelling content that translates complex program and partner work and engages audience segments and leads to measurable actions (blogs, social media, newsletters, one-pagers, case studies, email appeals, etc.)
  • Develop basic visual assets using tools like Canva and act as project manager for larger creative projects led by graphic design consultant and Director of Communications.
  • Develop asset creation lists and facilitate creation of approval workflows in coordination with department leadership and graphic design consultants
  • Maintain and update web content as needed or work with the website consultant for more complex tasks.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to collect and share impact stories.

Project Management and Internal Coordination (25%)

  • Serve as central point of coordination for communications requests, ensuring timely responses, coordinating needs and timelines, triaging and responding to internal needs, tracking progress, aligning deadlines, aligning priorities, and implementing clear and consistent workflows as approved by the Director of Communications.
  • Own the day-to-day project management of communications deliverables in the editorial calendar including timelines, task tracking, coordination and facilitation across departments, and asset approvals using Asana. Oversee the external event inputs on the Editorial calendar.
  • Support the Director of Communications with project management of consultant portfolios or special projects as directed.
  • Maintain branded toolkits, templates, internal documentation, SOPs, and style guides to ensure consistency and clarity across NetHope’s public-facing communications. Maintain photo and content libraries, logo folders and related assets, ensuring easy team access.
  • Develop SOPs, how-to guides, and reference toolkits related to communications workflows and tools.

Strategy Support and Communications Systems (10%)

  • Collaborate with the IT team & Director of Communications to maintain clean CRM lists, contact segments and Salesforce integration, ensuring accurate targeting across communications campaigns.
  • Manage and respond to inbound communication via social media and email inboxes for the department.
  • Partner with the Director of Communications to implement communications strategies that support organizational growth, visibility and thought leadership.
  • Participate in the development of the annual communications plan.
  • Help assess and maintain communications systems, tools, and templates for efficiency, alignment, and innovative practices.
  • Stay current on nonprofit marketing trends and bring new ideas to improve reach and resonance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated experience meeting or exceeding communications goals, particularly in a non-profit setting.
  • A creative thinker and do-er with experience developing content, growing audiences, and implementing campaigns across channels.
  • Superior writing skills, editing, and verbal communication skills with ability to quickly synthesize detailed program information and professionally prepare dynamic content.
  • Demonstrated experience in social media strategy and audience engagement.
  • Familiarity with performance metrics and a results-oriented approach to communications.
  • Strong project management skills and comfort working across functions with limited resources.
  • Ability to navigate change, complexity, and ambiguity while maintaining strategic focus.

Education and Experience

  • 4-6 years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of international humanitarian and development sectors a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • NetHope Member experience highly valued, other NGO experience a plus.
  • Proficiency with the following tools preferred such as Asana, Salesforce, Microsoft Office, Miro, Slack, Zoom, Metricool, Google Analytics, Cvent, Campaign Monitor, etc.
  • Experience with HTML or other web programming and/or design software a plus such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, WordPress)

Reporting and Working Conditions:

  • This position is a full-time position that reports to the Director of Communications and works closely with department leadership, workstream leads, and colleagues across the organization.
  • NetHope embraces flexible schedules for team members, and we work with each other to be located globally, but still maintain a reasonable work time balance.

  • This position is 100% remote and virtual. A reliable internet connection is required as you must be able to join video calling.
  • International or domestic travel may be required for 1-2 NetHope events annually.
  • NetHope salaries are set according to in-country market benchmarking and salary bands, ensuring compensation is both equitable and competitive within each local labour market. The full compensation package includes additional benefits governed by country requirements and NetHope policies.
