Description
Information and Communications work plays a crucial role in APWLD with its commitment to strengthening feminist movements in the region and building cross regional solidarity support to advance women’s human rights and feminist Development Justice. The role of the Information and Communications Associate (ICA) is to help strengthen the use of development and movement communications within the organisation and the broader membership to amplify the issues, visions, and aspirations of feminist movements in the region and globally. Using a range of traditional and new creative digital tools, the ICA supports in creating appropriate and strategic messaging, designs and communication as well as dissemination of information for wider public consumption to challenge dominant traditional narratives of patriarchy, neoliberal globalisation, fundamentalisms, militarism, and authoritarianism and how it undermines women’s human rights and Development Justice.
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of women’s human rights and Development Justice in Asia and the Pacific.
- Experience in communications work to support membership and/or movement-based organisations in amplifying its issues, analysis, and aspiration at national, regional or international levels.
- Two to Three years experience working in a communications role for non-government organisations or equivalent.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of using or developing movements’ communications as a framework and tool for capacity building, advocacy and feminist movement building in the region.
- Demonstrated experience on digital advocacy, experience in developing campaigns using digital media tools for content creation and dissemination.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in website management support, including content production and application of organisational branding.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in basic design, layout and video editing using Canva and/or Adobe softwares (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro)
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working on communications planning and strategising for a feminist, membership-based organisation/networks.
- A degree in mass communications, development communications, alternative media or journalism or similar relevant professional experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- Strong coordination/teamwork skills both within and across teams.
- Have a strong problem-solving and decision making attitude, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficient in ICT skills and tools– familiarity in using online shared platforms such as Google Suite, meeting tools like ZOOM, design tools like Canva and Adobe, analytical tools like Hootsuite or Buffer and newsletter tools like Mailchimp. Additional experience in digital security platforms like Bitwarden and VPN is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse, membership-driven network and its allies.
- Excellent command of the English language, both oral and written.
- Must be able to travel overseas as/when required.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and planning support to the Information and Communications Programme and their related activities.
- Assist and work closely with the Information and Communications Officer in developing and implementing APWLD’s communications strategies, tools and branding.
- Coordinate Digital Advocacy, including assisting in developing content and strategy for APWLD’s digital communications channels, including social media (Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Instagram), email and website.
- Assist in coordinating media advocacy including assisting in writing and disseminating press statements and releases, building and maintaining media database, as well as building a relationship with media outlets in the region.
- Assist in production, compilation, editing, design, publication, and distribution of collaterals like newsletters, audio, video and graphic content for APWLD’s digital assets such as social media platforms and the website.
- Assist in managing and responding to urgent action alerts and advocacy requirements and respond to media requests.
- Assist in coordinating advocacy, campaigns, actions and events in collaboration with respective programmes.
- Provide support in APWLD’s strategic communications work at regional and global advocacy spaces through APWLD’s various networks in collaboration with relevant programmes.
- Provide support in writing, editing, and distributing content, including publications, website content, annual reports, speeches and other materials that communicate the activities of the organisation as well as to develop narrative and financial reports specific to the Information and Communications work.
- Support in coordinating the production of communications advocacy and training resource materials as required in collaboration with relevant programmes.
- Provide support in APWLD’s initiative on digital rights and digital justice.
- Conduct monitoring, evaluation and learning of APWLD’s digital communication.
- Work closely with the Information and Communications Officer, Programme Manager, Deputy Regional Coordinator, Regional Coordinator and other Secretariat staff.
- Performs other duties as required by the Regional Coordinator, Deputy Regional Coordinator, Programme Manager or supervising Officer.
Remuneration & Compensation
Salary range commences at USD 1,200 per month. Other benefits include monthly work from home allowance (130USD), health allowance and insurance; contributions to social security and to the employee provident fund; and 13th month salary. This is a full-time position with a two-year (renewable) contract; and a probationary period of four months applies. Staff will be based and work from her home country.
