Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is looking for someone with passion, who enjoys working on a remote team, and is committed to Indigenous Climate Justice, to serve as our Divestment Organizer. We are seeking someone with a keen interest and experience in challenging fossil fuels, financial divestment campaigning, and decolonial research methodologies to support our Indigenous Divestment Program.
This position requires a deep understanding of the intersectional approaches of climate justice and Indigenous rights and the important role Indigenous peoples play in this work.
This is a remote, work from home, online position with priority given to individuals who live in so-called Canada.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the guidance of the Campaign Manager the Divestment Organizer will focus on coordinating ICA’s Indigenous Divestment program, Indigenous Divestment Working Group (IDWG) and associated campaigns. The primary goals of this role are to grow the impact of ICA’s Indigenous-led Divestment campaign, associated resources, contact lists, and role in divestment coalitions. This includes identifying high impact community solidarity opportunities, critical tools, resources and training opportunities to support a broad based Indigenous Divestment movement in so-called Canada.
The position requires demonstrated competency in the following areas:
- Issue-based action campaigning
- Online communications and organizing
- Verbal and written communications
- Organizational, analytical, and time management
- Public speaking and media engagement
- Climate justice and Indigenous peoples rights, cultures and histories
The Indigenous Divestment Organizer’s duties are as follows:
- Organizing and stewarding the Indigenous Divestment Working Group (IDWG) and other advisory bodies to guide and develop programming, resources, and campaigns.
- Increasing
awareness of Indigenous-led Divestment campaigns, resources, opportunities and events through the ICA social media, website, newsletters and the No More Dirty Banks platform. - Uplifting Indigenous voices and participation at key moments like the annual mobilization during RBC’s Annual General Meeting.
- Supporting the development of popular education materials including bite sized resources, digital content, and workshops related to divestment.
- Maintaining and building an Indigenous Divestment listserv including an engagement strategy to build momentum and drive action.
- Regular outreach and networking with key Indigenous and non-Indigenous leaders engaged in Divestment strategies, including participation in coalition spaces.
- Helping build, execute, and evaluate campaign strategies including an annual review of the Divestment program and quarterly and annual reporting on program activities.
- Remain up-to-date and knowledgeable on existing Indigenous climate and divestment resources and movements.
- Supporting the organization with other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience and understanding of climate justice and Indigenous peoples rights, culture, and histories in so-called Canada;
- Demonstrated commitment to Indigenous rights, financial divestment campaigning, engagement, and education through previous employment or volunteer experience;
- Experience working and organizing in radical movement spaces, including supporting or organizing frontline direct action is considered an asset;
- Ability and willingness to travel to support in-person planning meetings, mobilization, and key events throughout the year;
- must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
The position is full time and entails a 30-35 hours work week. However, some travel and evening/weekend hours may be required. The successful candidate must be willing to be flexible and work hours required to meet ICA expectations. A Criminal Record Check along with Child and Adult Abuse Registry checks may be required conditions of employment. ICA can assist with this process if need be.
COMPENSATION: $55,000 – $68,000 pro-rated. This is a full-time position with benefits related to a year-long contract, with the possibility of extension.
