This position requires a deep understanding of the intersectional approaches of climate justice, Indigenous rights and Indigenous-led research. This is a remote, work from home, online working position with priority given to Indigenous people who live in so-called Canada.

POSITION SUMMARY
Indigenous Climate Action is seeking a confident, proactive individual to fill the role of the Research Coordinator. The Research Coordinator will be responsible for building and maintaining collaborative relationships, conducting relevant research, and supporting the development of community-driven knowledge and analysis to inform Indigenous-led climate solutions. They will play a key role in developing research tools and resources, supporting ICA’s community-driven research priorities, and ensuring that all research is grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems and guided by community leadership.
The Research Coordinator reports to the Research and Policy Manager. In addition, the Research Coordinator may be required to contribute to the design, writing, analysis and coordinating across multiple projects and initiatives.
The position requires demonstrated competency in the following areas:

The Research Coordinator duties are as follows:
Indigenous-led Research & Analysis
- Coordinate ICA’s research initiatives, including supporting the Decolonizing Climate Policy project and its associated toolkit.
- Support research projects and/or aspects of projects as they arise or are identified.
- Identify and explore research opportunities that amplify and support Indigenous communities.
- Coordinate with research staff, interns, and contractors in the Research team.
- Support Communications team in development of Research specific content.
- Conduct literature reviews, environmental scans, and identify existing knowledge gaps in ICA’s existing research.
Research Collaborations and Partnerships
- Review and facilitate intake of requests for research collaborations with ICA and provide strategic advice on these requests.
- Manage and maintain collaborations with research partners and organizations.
- Work in collaboration with Inform and Connect Pod to develop strategic partnerships and collaborations for the dissemination of ICA position papers and critiques of emerging policy.
Research Engagement and Strategy
- Support the implementation of ICA’s national research strategy, with the support of the National Steering Committee.
- Ensure that all research activities uphold principles of Indigenous data sovereignty, ethics and cultural protocols.
- Support the development of creative, accessible outputs (reports, toolkits, multimedia) that are relevant and useful to Indigenous communities, organizations and people.
- Maintain regular communication, feedback loops, and accountability with community partners and the National Steering Committee.
Internal Support and Well-Being
- When necessary, support the Development team in funding related applications and reporting.
- Collaborate with the ICA team where appropriate (i.e weekly staff meetings, team specific calls, other emergent items).
- Report to the National Steering Committee and Board of Directors when required.
- Other assigned duties.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of Indigenous rights, sovereignty and self-determination in relation to climate justice.
- A post-secondary degree in a related field (e.g., education, social sciences, political science, environmental studies) OR a minimum 4 years of demonstrated experience in Indigenous-led research, analysis or advocacy.
- Extensive knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies, Indigenous-led research practices and data sovereignty principles.
- Strong relationship-building skills for balanced diverse perspectives and expectations, and the ability to communicate constructive advice, with both the internal team and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills to prepare and present clear advice through briefing materials, in response to action requests, and in meetings.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple timelines in a politically reactive environment. Demonstrated agility in anticipating and adapting to changing priorities.
- Commitment to lifelong learning and the desire to invest in the development of the long-term capability of yourself and others.
- Commitment to decolonial, anti-oppressive values and Indigenous-led approaches.
- Experience working with Indigenous-led organizations and structures that challenges systems of colonization, white supremacy, patriarchy and capitalism.
- Member of an Indigenous community and fluency in an Indigenous language an asset.
The position is full-time and entails a 30-35 hour work week. However, some travel and evening/weekend hours may be required. The successful candidate must be willing to be flexible and work hours required to meet ICA expectations. A Criminal Record Check along with Child and Adult Abuse Registry checks may be required conditions of employment. ICA can assist with this process if need be.
SALARY: $55,000- $68,000 annual salary + MERCs + health benefits + proD + office subsidies
