Deadline Date: May 31, 2026
The Hinrich Foundation provides support to trade research projects that advance the understanding of global trade issues and support policy development.
The Foundation’s international trade research program promotes research across trade-related sectors, particularly related — in no order of preference — to trade governance, geopolitics of trade, foreign direct investment (FDI), supply chain resilience and security, digital trade, innovation and technology, trade and environmental sustainability, trade workforce and education, industrial competitiveness and economic development, natural resources in trade and trade logistics and services.
The program encourages high-quality research proposals from individual researchers and research organizations with expertise in trade-related domains. Submissions are reviewed and shortlisted for consideration twice each year, providing regular opportunities for scholars to engage with the Foundation’s research agenda.
Research proposals are expected to clearly identify the name and credentials of the researcher or research team, along with a concise synopsis of the proposed study. The synopsis should address major trade-related themes, preferably pose two to four key questions that the research seeks to answer and clearly specify whether the research will be based on primary or secondary methods.
The Foundation generally publishes research outputs in the form of white papers of around 4,000 words and articles of around 1,600 words, all of which are subject to editorial review.
Researchers may propose new research projects with one or more article and/or white paper deliverables, or submit an overview or summary of existing work, including research that has already been published elsewhere, with final publication decisions resting with the Foundation.
Projects are encouraged to be completed within four months from the point of commission, with researchers providing progress updates at mutually agreed intervals and taking into account feedback from the Foundation’s research program team.
In some cases, researchers may be requested to submit one or two interim articles of approximately 1,600 words to summarize preliminary findings before the final project completion.
Funding for selected projects is negotiable and is typically disbursed upon completion of the research. The upcoming deadline for submission is May 31, 2026, offering a timely opportunity for researchers to contribute to ongoing discussions and analysis in international trade.
