Internationalisation is one of the key objectives underlying the activities of the University of Padua. Accordingly, a specific programme of scholarships has been established in order to boost and support the academic career of international students not residing in Italy and holding a non-Italian citizenship and a foreign entry qualification. Selected students may be asked to act as Ambassadors and represent the University at a number of events. The scholarship includes an allowance of € 8,000.00 (gross for the recipient) and a tuition fee-waiver per academic year. The only amount to be paid by scholarship recipients each academic year is an administrative fee, consisting of the regional tax for the right to education and the revenue stamp. Such amount is not refundable. Reimbursement of travel, insurance or other expenses is not included in the scholarship and will not be covered by the University of Padua. The scholarship has a maximum duration of: Once the above-mentioned period has elapsed, students will be required to pay the tuition fees due until graduation. Students can maintain their scholarship eligibility also in the following years if enrolled in the same degree programme of first enrolment. Scholarships cannot be combined with any other grant awarded by other public institutions. If a candidate has been awarded more than one scholarship, he/she must choose which one to accept. Candidates are responsible for promptly notifying the Admissions and Welcome Unit – Global Engagement Office (international.admission@unipd.it) and the relevant Department of any incompatibility with other scholarships. ART. 3 – Admission requirements and selection To be eligible for the selection, under penalty of exclusion, applicants must: The applicants who fail to meet one or more of these requirements are not eligible for selection for scholarships. All the students fulfilling the above-mentioned requirements are automatically admitted to selection. Neither a separate application form nor further documents are needed in addition to those required for applying for the chosen degree programme. ART. 4 – Selection procedure and awarding criteria The Academic Committee of each degree programme shortlists eligible applicants and awards the most deserving candidates the scholarships, based on academic excellence in their field of study, quality, and records from their prior learning. In case of equal score, the youngest candidate will be given priority. Scholarships are mainly reserved for candidates applying for the first application period; they may be awarded to eligible candidates of the second application period on an exceptional basis. Scholarships selection results will be published at www.unipd.it/en/assessement-results: ART. 5 – Acceptance Candidates selected for a scholarship will receive a specific scholarship offer from the Admissions and Welcome Unit – Global Engagement Office with the procedures and deadlines for accepting it. ART. 7 – Scholarship renewal: payment methods and requirements to maintain scholarship eligibility All the beneficiaries will receive the scholarship for the second year (A.Y. 2026/27) provided they meet the following merit requirements: Bachelor’s degree and Single-cycle degree students will receive the scholarship for the third year (A.Y. 2027/28 provided they meet the following merit requirements: In case of enrolment with recognition of prior learning, the credits earned during previous university career cannot be considered for fulfilling the requirements to maintain scholarship eligibility for the second and the third year (where applicable). ART. 8 – Revocation of scholarship If the aforementioned merit requirements are not met within the deadline, the payment of the scholarships will be stopped. What costs are not covered? The Mandela Rhodes Foundation does not pay for your application fees for university, or for the accreditation of your existing degrees through SAQA, which may be an entry requirement to your course. We also do not provide financial support for visa applications. How do the finances work? Allowances are paid twice a year. You will be required to provide proof of registration at the start of the year, and a progress report from your university two weeks after the start of the second semester. Your tuition and registration fees are paid directly to the tertiary institution, while all other allowances are paid to you. Any amount due to or owed by you prior to becoming a Mandela Rhodes Scholar, is your sole responsibility, and the MRF will not become involved in any way. Does the MRF provide support and assistance with my visa process? No. Applying for your visa and paying for any associated costs is your responsibility. You will need a visa in order to take up the scholarship in South Africa. It is very important to start as early as possible. If your visa is delayed you may not be able to start your academic programme and the Leadership Development Programme on time. This could result in you losing the scholarship. Apply for your visa as soon as you have received acceptance from your university of choice. Your application form states that I have to submit a copy of my passport. I do not have the means to acquire a passport, can you assist me? If you are shortlisted for an interview and need to fly to South Africa, The Mandela Rhodes Foundation does not cover the cost of any travel documents such as passports. How do I apply? You must apply online. You can log onto our applications platform to access your application and upload your documents and essays. The three people who write your recommendation letters must also log onto the platform to upload their letters directly. You must give them plenty of time to write their letters, sign onto the platform, and upload them. Your application cannot be submitted without the letters and will not be considered. What is the application deadline? The deadline is 21 April, by which time all application documentation needs to have been uploaded. Your recommenders (referees) must have uploaded their references by then in order for your application to be complete. Do I apply for SAQA verification now? Applying for SAQA verification is not required in order to apply. However, we advise that if you get through to the second and third rounds of the application process, you apply and complete the SAQA verification of your qualifications as soon as possible. No. You must apply separately to your chosen tertiary institution for the degree you wish to undertake. The award is conditional on your being offered a place at the relevant institution. It’s best to apply to several universities in case you do not get accepted at your first choice and are unable to take up the scholarship as a result. How do I know if I meet the entry requirements for the course I want to complete in South Africa? Many South African Masters degrees require you to have completed a four year program or an Honours degree. If you want to study for a Masters, we advise that you check carefully with your intended department of study and university, exactly what the requirements are. They may require that you get your qualifications verified by the South African Qualifications Agency (SAQA). This process can take some time and delay both your university acceptance and your visa. Start early. Please be reminded that should you not qualify for a Masters Programme you could apply for an Honours Programme. NB: If you are not accepted to university timeously, you will not be able to get your study visa in time for the commencement of the programme in January, and you will not be able accept the scholarship. Do I need straight As? The Mandela Rhodes Scholarship is competitive. It is for young leaders who have a combination of intellect and character. You must be academically strong: your marks should be above 70% or an upper second. You must also have demonstrated leadership on your campus or in your community. The fellowship is open to citizens of any African country. This fellowship is a joint initiative with the Mo Ibrahim Foundation. It offers candidates at the early-to-mid-stage of their career the opportunity to spend ten months at Chatham House working on an individual research project of their choosing. Fellows take part in the core work of the Institute, developing their skills through the leadership programme, and furthering their professional network in the field of international affairs. Open Call for Youth-Led Solutions Applications Now Open!
Deadline: 24 March 2025 Youth Empowerment Fund (YEF), a partnership between the European Union (EU) and the Global Youth Mobilization (GYM), an initiative of the Big Six Youth Organisations (Big Six), provides direct financial support for youth-led initiatives focusing on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals at the local level. The Youth Empowerment Fund also aims to reach young people from under-represented backgrounds, including those facing challenges relating to their socio-economic background, gender, disability, marginalization, climate change, and more. Hence, many Youth-Led Solutions support young people and their communities in overcoming these situations of vulnerability. We are now accepting applications from 3 March 2025 to 24 March 2025, 2359 CET. Why Apply for the Youth Empowerment Fund Open Call? The Youth Empowerment Fund seeks to break down barriers to funding to youth initiatives and organisations and engage, empower and connect young people to create local solutions to the world’s biggest challenges. An individual person or an informal group of young people can apply to get small scale micro-grants for their projects between 500-1500 EUR, while registered youth-led organization may apply for funding up to 5000 EUR. A key priority and a special focus of the Youth Empowerment Fund is to fund youth-led initiatives supporting under-represented and vulnerable communities, such as those affected by climate change, people with disabilities or chronic illness, and people facing gender-based barriers. Another special focus of the Youth Empowerment Fund is to support projects that address climate change, environmental protection or sustainability. In the last Open Call cycle, the 56% of Youth-Led Solutions supported by the Youth Empowerment Fund were focused on advancing SDG 13: Climate Action. Enabled by the GYM’s Youth-Led Model, the applications are reviewed and recommended by a global, diverse and experienced team of Youth Panellist from across the globe, including the GYM’s Youth Board Representatives. In the last Open Call cycle, 166 Youth Panellists were recruited and they contributed over 3,400 volunteer hours in the intensive review process from August to November 2024 to select the projects. Deadline: 1 May 2025 The Z Zurich Foundation creates brighter futures for vulnerable people. Prevention is at the forefront of our work. Our three pillars – adapting to climate change, improving mental well-being, and enabling social equity – are increasingly urgent, complex issues that have far-reaching impacts on individuals, communities and society as a whole. We focus on helping disadvantaged communities to adapt to a changing climate. We are building a global community dedicated to improving the mental well-being of young people, and we are providing youth with the skills, education and resources they need to reach their full potential. We believe that the key to creating a better future is connection – fostering relationships between those in the know and those most in need, advocating for change and tackling society’s challenges from the ground up. This is why we are committed to supporting impactful leaders to participate in the annual One Young World Summit, the world’s most international community of young leaders. The Z Zurich Foundation Scholarship 2025 will allow 25 young leaders working on prevention-focused mental well-being projects, adaptation-focused climate resilience projects, or projects enabling social equity through education, employability or entrepreneurship solutions, to participate in the One Young World Summit 2025, which takes place in Munich, Germany from 3 – 6 November. If you are a young leader working to champion any of these causes, this scholarship could be for you. Focus Areas We are seeking young leaders actively driving grassroots initiatives for vulnerable communities in one or more of the following areas: Adapting to Climate Change Initiatives that help communities adapt to climate change and build climate resilience. Climate change adaptation focuses on transforming behaviors, systems, and ways of life to protect communities from the impacts of climate change. Improving Mental Wellbeing Initiatives focused on prevention and/or promotion of youth mental wellbeing. Promotion fosters enabling environments that enhance young people’s emotional wellbeing, while prevention focuses on identifying and mitigating risk factors for mental health conditions. Enabling Social Equity Initiatives tackling barriers to education, employment, and/or entrepreneurship by equipping young people with the resources, knowledge, and skills needed to unlock their potential. Scholars will receive: Scholarship Eligibility Criteria * Most delegates are between the ages of 18 and 30. The One Young World team will consider candidates who are older than 30, pending demonstration of appropriate personal impact, initiative, and willingness to engage.
