Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship Program

Provider: Chatham HousePosted: May 4, 2026Deadline: April 7, 2026

The Chatham House has launched its Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship Program to support early-to-mid-career professionals from African countries to spend ten months at Chatham House working on an independently designed research project while developing leadership skills and expanding their professional networks in international affairs.

The fellowship focuses on completing a personal research project, participating in a Leadership Masterclass Programme, and contributing to ongoing research activities aligned with Chatham House’s mission. The Leadership Masterclass Programme forms a core part of the fellowship and includes an intensive induction week, thematic sessions on global challenges, leadership skills workshops, leadership briefings with global experts, project presentations, personal development coaching, media training, and optional career mentoring. These components are designed to strengthen leadership capacity, enhance professional skills, and build global networks.

Funding for the fellowship includes a monthly stipend of £2,565 to cover living expenses in London, including accommodation, food, utilities, and transport. In addition, they cover relocation costs such as travel, accommodation support, and visa fees, including sponsorship where required. The UK Immigration Health Surcharge is also included, along with research-related expenses for fieldwork, outreach, events, and publications. Upon successful completion, fellows gain access to the Academy’s faculty and alumni network, as well as a five-year Chatham House membership.

Eligibility criteria require applicants to be citizens of any African country, including those holding dual nationality with an African country. Applicants must have completed a BA degree or equivalent and demonstrate experience in conducting research. The fellowship is intended for individuals at the early-to-mid-stage of their careers working in academia, NGOs, business, government, civil society, or the media, with a clear interest in international affairs and relevant research areas. There are no age restrictions, but fellows are expected to commit full-time and cannot undertake other work or study during the programme.
